I had mentioned The Dreams of a Solo in the past and thought it might be a good time for an update...
The anonymous lawyer who has been documenting via blawg his/her plans and processes in setting up a solo practice has "turned on the lights."
In the post One Week Into Full-Time Solo Law Practice, the lawyer noted that early developments are promising:
The good news is that I have survived the first week and I am eager to continue with the upward trends that have presented themselves thus far. In addition to the word of mouth networking that I started after giving notice at my previous job, I put together an announcement letter that I sent to 75 or so contacts in the area. This letter went out towards the beginning of last week, which corresponded to the publication of my website and practice related blog. On the first day that the announcement hit the recipients' desks I immediately heard back from ten people. Three of those ten people had a referral waiting for me and the other seven genuinely seemed excited about the new endeavor.
And, the lawyer's goals are on display as well:
From a business standpoint things are progressing inline with the projections that I laid out a month ago. I have every reason to believe that I will be able to cashflow the operations by the end of this month and at the rate things are developing things are looking quite promising by the end of the year. My goal has been to surpass my previous income level by the end of 2007. That is admittedly an ambitious goal, but it is attainable as things come together.
Finally, for anyone else considering a jump to solo practice, the archive of posts from The Dreams of a Solo may offer some thoughts, ideas or tidbits of information that could prove useful; it never hurts to read case studies of someone who has just gone through what you are planning to do.
I am looking forward to sharing the news and developments from this new perspective going forward. The posts leading up to the start of July will be an interesting starting point for future compare and contrast type posts, since this is the time for the implementation of those plans and ideas. I will do my best to regularly keep this blog updated with new and exciting content along the way.
