Flying home this morning, it was nice to open The New York Times Op-Ed Page and see a commentary from law professor Ann Althouse, A License to Blog [registration req'd], on the topic of, as you may have guessed, weblogs. In the piece, Professor Althouse talks about the hue and cry from a some political bloggers about the need for standards, worries about being political blogs being 'infiltrated' by publicists, and the supposed need for bloggers to be viligant about people offering comments who may not be the objective voice they present themselves to be. From my reading of her piece, it seems she finds it all a bit much at times.
If you can track down the commentary, it is worth reading. I'll share a couple of my favorite lines:
Blogging is just writing, and there is no end to the things you can do with writing.
Let life on the blog unfold like off-blog life.
For those who don't receive the NYTimes and are not inclined to subscribe online, you can simply browse [and/or subscribe to] Professor Althouse's frequent postings at Althouse.
Good stuff.
