Blawg's Sunday Paper 1 - 14 - 07

Blawg's Sunday Paper, a quick spin through the blawgosphere and the week that was.

Attorney John L. Welch, who writes the TTABlog, was referenced in a Wall Street Journal article yesterday, BTW, if You Need Info About C4ISR, Read This ASAP, concerning the website AcronymFinder.com, and its reliability.   TTABlog refers to the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB) of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.   According to the article, "[a]t the patent office, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board routinely refuses to trademark acronyms that are "merely descriptive." TTAB judges have taken to citing AF listings as evidence of that, annoying some trademark lawyers."   To expound on that point, the article's author, Barry Newman, highlighted posts (see links below) from the TTABlog dating from last July.

It would interesting to know for sure how Mr. Newman found the old posts, but I would not be surprised to find that a simple Google search turned up the old content.   Weblog content tends to be both highly indexed and ranked within the search engine databases.

In other postings from the past week,

Dennis Kennedy said I'm Impressed by the Micromemo Voice Recorder for the iPod:  "The Micromemo appears, at this point, to be a very interesting and affordable option for speakers who want to have a portable way to capture the audio of their presentations. Definitely worth a look."

William Patry, senior copyright counsel at Google Inc. started up The Patry Treatise Blog: "In conjunction with the release today of my new treatise [Patry on Copyright], I have started this blog as a forum for people to post comments on the treatise."

Evan Schaeffer's Legal Underground noted that The Legal Underground Podcast Episode #51 is a ten minute discussion of Advanced Deposition Techniques, Part 3: Miscellaneous Tips for Expert Depositions.

Connie Crosby gave a book review of the new title Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything in her post Wikinomics: Mass Collaboration Coming Your Way.

Trial Ad Notes, a trial advocacy blawg, commented in the post entitled Unpatriotic to Represent Accused Terrorists?, on an interview given by a federal official this week related to Guantanamo:  "Charles D. Stimson, the deputy assistant secretary of state for detainee affairs, riled lawyers and ethics experts by suggesting in an interview on Thursday that law firms shouldn't represent Guantanamo detainees -- and that clients should drop firms that do."

And, finally, Future Lawyer pointed out Chuck Newton: The Third Wave: Chuck Newton and his entertaining web site about "Third Wave Lawyering" for some time. Chuck is using technology to follow the path of a home based lawyer, without traditional trappings of law office success.

Another week of great content, ideas and commentary throughout the blawgosphere.   I encourage you to jump in via any of the links above or do a search of your own via the Blawg search box at the top of this page.   Enjoy your Sunday...
