One of the things I find most interesting about the blawgosphere is its reach, to all corners of the world. To that point, I wanted to highlight Law in Moldova from Alexei Ghertescu.
I consider myself fairly educated with regard to geography, but I must admit I had no idea where Moldova was located. Mr. Ghertescu gave me a hint with his blawg's tagline, "Searching for law somewhere between Romania and Ukraine," but I decided to check The World Factbook to find out for sure.
The country, once a part of Romania, gained indepedence from the USSR in 1991 and has a new Constitution drafted in 1994 and "a legal system based on civil law system." There is also a "Constitutional Court reviews legality of legislative acts and governmental decisions of resolution and the country "accepts many UN and Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) documents."
In his profile Mr. Ghertescu, who is based in the capitol city of Chisinau, says "i've been practicing law in Moldova already for three year[s]. I started my professional career full of hopes, often looking to the world and to my profession through rose-colored glasses. A lot of my illusions have been dispelled since then. But what has remained is the real love and passion for what I do day by day..."
I believe Mr. Ghertescu is the only lawyer covering news and develpments with laws and the legal system from Moldova. Let's hope he continues to do so. Visit Law in Moldova
