Quick Takes from In-Housel Counsel

Jonathan Wilson, in-house counsel at Web.com highlighted in his brief post, Business Shakedowns,  yesterday  "an article on CALA's project to find vicitims of lawsuit abuse."    He also found it worth noting that the article came from mainstream media and talked about "excessive litigation through its effects on the business cycle and consumer prices without any gratuitous sound bites from the ATLA."

Meanwhile, Hanna Hasl-Kelchner, Associate General Counsel and national counsel for trademark enforcement at Lorillard Tobacco Company, gives notices that the Bureau of National Affairs is hosting a Legal Literacy audio conference.   The conference will include an "in depth discussion on how...organization[s] can use legal literacy to minimize risk and maximize opportunity."

Finally, David Rudin, an attorney at Microsoft talks about the news that Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo! join together to support Sitemaps.  In describing the negotiating process he notes: A great deal of work took place to make this collaboration happen. It took business leadership from all sides, technical collaboration, PR, and, of course, the establishment of a legal framework. Over many weeks of negotiation, Microsoft, Google, and Yahoo! established how we would work together, ranging from how the Sitemaps website will be hosted to how we will improve the specification going forward to how we will make Sitemaps available to the community.
