NPR this morning covered the ongoing Enron trial, by interviewing blawger Mary Flood of the Houston Chronicle. The Chronicle's staff is covering the trial via regular reporting and blawg entitled
Enron: TrialWatch.
When asked about the value of the blawg version of the trial coverage, Ms. Flood noted that they can offer much deeper and wider coverage of the Skilling-Lay proceedings via the blawg. Whether you consider the blawg coverage overkill or an enhancement, it is apparent that there a lot of people (including media types) following the trial via the Chronicle's blawgs.
Note the plural, because to its credit, the Chronicle also is sponsoring a second blawg entitled, Enron: Legal Commentary, which offers "Lay-Skilling trial analysis from Texas attorneys." This blawg, which brings together a group of Texas lawyers, offers another view of the proceedings from individuals with local knowledge and expertise, rather than just the professional talking heads you typically see analyzing such high profile cases for national media.
As a final note, you may have difficulty loading either blawg this morning. Why? I am guessing because the media coverage the blawgs themselves have generated are leading to huge traffic spikes. Makes me wonder how many new subscribers the blawgs will pick up this week?
