Houston Firm's Energy Law Blog May Be Timely

Patterson & Guiliani, a Houston-based law firm of 400 attorneys, started a blawg last month covering Energy Law, the Energy Legal Blog. To this point, the firm's Energy Law practice group has been ably focusing on being a "resource for updates and analysis on national and regional energy issues."

Yet, with Hurrican Rita bearing down on the Texas coast, the Energy Legal Blog may find itself in a unique position. Especially, in discussing the legal implications, if any, for the energy industry that may be left in the aftermath of the storm. I have read reports suggesting that as much as 20% of the United States' oil refinery output will be offline (the length of time will be dependent on the outcome storm itself). There could be major economic after-effects and the energy industry will be under enormous pressure to get these refineries and related services back online as quickly as possible. As part of this, something tells me there may be regulatory and other legal issues involved, and that lawyers will be consulted somewhere along the line.

What will be interesting to watch, is how the Houston-based Energy Legal Blog reacts, and what type of information and coverage is offered there in the coming days and weeks. I, for one, will be subscribing...
