The blogosphere reports a rumor that
Technorati is about to be sold to an unnamed large search company.
For those unfamiliar with Technorati, it considers itself to be "a real-time search engine that keeps track of what is going on in the blogosphere — the world of weblogs." If the rumors prove to be true, expect others blog/RSS search engines such as Feedster and Blog Search Engine to also be acquisition targets.
As Yahoo!, Google, Microsoft, IAC, and even News Corp continue to grow and acquire innovative companies and ideas with an eye to the future of information-sharing and collaboration, I have to wonder what the big legal media companies have in the works, if anything? Perhaps they don't see the above-mentioned companies as competitors at some point down the road and are content in their business models and existing revenue streams. Or perhaps they are biding their time and developing their future strategies. Whatever the case may be, as we watch new era dot.com companies start-up and be acquired, often in a span of 24 months or less, by search engines/portals which are morphing into media conglomerates, and media conglomerates which are adding search engines/portals, something is clearly afoot.
