Bob Wyman, over at
PubSub,
reported recently that the PubSub weblog tracking system has found that 55% of the 9 million weblogs it tracks are considered "active."
Interestingly, this 55% is about on par with my own--albeit unscientific--findings within the blawgosphere. Indeed, as I clean up the directory and dump the blawgs whose authors have moved on and stopped publishing, I find "active" percentage is actually a bit higher than the 55% found by PubSub.
At the end of the day, 55% of 9 million is a pretty large number. It points to the reality that around 5 million weblogs are being actively published. And, the numbers seem to be growing at a rapid pace. For those of us who think the world is already drowning in information, it is apparent we have not seen anything yet.
