In perhaps another sign that the Dot Com, version 2 may be upon us, five guys in a San Francisco apartment, including Evan Williams, who co-founded Blogger, have started
Odeo. According to the
NY Times, "[t]he company plans to introduce a Web-based system that is aimed at making a business of
podcasting - the process of creating, finding, organizing and listening to digital audio files that range from living-room ramblings to BBC newscasts." Closer to home, here in the blawgosphere, there are a handful of legal professionals taking a stab at podcasting (or plawdcasting if you prefer)
themselves.
Mr. Williams offers his own take on the company and what it will offer on his blog.
Given that Google purchased Mr. Williams last startup, it is likely his new effort will continue to generate press going forward, so it may be one to watch. Of course, the big question is whether there is any money to be made in podcasting? Rest assured, there will be many startups who will try and answer that questions with a resounding "yes."
Postscript: Wondering just what "podcasting" is? You may want to start here to find out.
