From what I am reading, a new term has entered the blogger lexicon: blogswarm. While it appears the blogosphere is still fleshing out the definition, the analogy is to that of a swarm of locusts (bloggers) descending on a wheat field (story or news item). The effect of the blogswarm is to catapault a story or news item to the forefront of the national discussion for that day or week. The end result, for better or worse, is often some change (e.g., someone being fired, someone stepping down, etc.). Given the growing clout of the blogswarm, it seems we can expect interest groups from all across the political and social spectrum to continue to devise methods to create and utilize 'swarms to their further their cause. Welcome, Blogswarm.
