Google Goes Local - Very Slick

A bit off topic, but I am very impressed with the brand new Google Local. Searches which give meaningful results based on personal location have long been a serious challenge for search engines and one of the main reason the phone companies' hard copy "yellow pages" are still relevant.

Well, we might be seeing the beginning of the end of the yellow pages. I tested out Google Local today and it was right on the money. I typed in my address and the word "pizza" and 15 pizza places were listed, with the closest to my house listed first. Even better, the listings including phone number and address and even a link to directions via MapQuest. Now, if they could only add a "menu" and "place an order" button next to the directions...

Link: Google Local.
