As Yahoo! continues to cut its ties to Google, perhaps it makes sense that the two will be split on the feed standard they will support/promote.
To this point, Yahoo! is clearly in the RSS camp, offering News Feeds in RSS and soon it appears the ability to pull any RSS feed into its My.Yahoo! service.
This latter offering is especially exciting because it allows the user to define the feeds to which he/she will subscribe, and not just from a pre-defined list of choices. Thinking about what the could mean, the average user of My.Yahoo! may soon find that it is just as easy to subscribe to a popular topical blawg's headlines as it is to subscribe to CNN Headlines.
As blawgs continue their expansion, developments that lower the user threshold and "mainstream" the concept by associating them with established companies and services, are more than welcome. So, whether it uses RSS or Atom, hats off to My.Yahoo!.
