Has anyone noticed the increasing number of e-mail newsletters getting caught in spam-filtering software and never making it to your inbox? Indeed, some law firms have had to resort to assigning a staff person to literally go through blocked email to ensure nothing important has been caught. Even so, with the constant spam battles facing network administrators every day, there seems to be a move to err on the side of blocking too much e-mail. Moreover, I have noticed that a number of newsletters sent out by law firms and legal vertical vendors contain elements that lend themselves to be targetted as spam. And, how many law firms really have the expertise to ensure their newsletters are not blocked by continually changing spam filters at their target audiences' companies?
With this in mind, Ryan Naraine at InternetNews.com recently posted an interesting article on the subject of RSS replacing e-Mail as the preferred distribution method for newsletters. While there is still a long way to go before the RSS process is as simple to use as e-mail, he makes some good points and offers an intriguing view of the possible future for RSS as a marketing medium.
